Tidak berlebihan jika dikatakan bahwa keterpurukandunia pendidikan di negara ini dialamatkan kepada guru sebagaigarda terdepan pelaksanaan pendidikan. Eksistensi guru sebagaitransfer of knowledge dan transfer of value, memangmemainkan peran yang sangat signifikan dalam menentukankualitas out put sekolah ataupun madrasah. Guru yang sudahterlanjur dianggap sebagai “makhluk” serba bisa, dituntut untuklebih profesional dalam menjalankan tugasnya. Hal ini menjadipenting agar guru tidak terjebak dalam mitos karya sehinggadapat memandulkan etos kerja.Redefinisi, rekonseptualisasi, dan reposisi guru danperanannya perlu segera dilakukan terutama mencermatituntutan era pembelajaran yang lebih demokratis, egaliter sertadalam upaya memanusiakan siswa sebagai sosok yang memangjelas-jelas berbeda dengan guru. Terobosan baru sebagai sebuahlompatan yang berbeda dengan sebelumnya setidaknya akanmemberikan nuansa dan suasana baru sehingga guru benar-benarpantas digugu dan ditiru oleh siswanya.
