Abstrak

Sebagai alat interaksi verbal, bahasa dapat dikaji secarainternal maupun secara eksternal. Secara internal kajian dilakukanterhadap struktur internal bahasa itu mulai dari strukturfonologi, morfologi, sintaksis, sampai struktur wacana. Kajiansecara eksternal berkaitan dengan hubungan bahasa denganfaktor-faktor atau hal-hal yang ada di luar bahasa, seperti faktirsosial, psikologi, seni dan sebagainya.Pembelajaran bahasa sebagai salah satu masalah komplekmanusia karena hal ini termasuk kajian bahasa internal maupuneksternal yang berkenaan dengan masalah bahasa dan kegiatanberbahasa. Sedangkan kegiatan berbahasa itu bukan hanyaberlangsung secara mekanistik tetapi juga secara mentalistik.Artikel ini mencoba menguraikan suatu bentuk pendekatankomunikatif yang diusung dalam teori transformativegeneratifmenurut Noam Chomsky, seorang linguis Amerika.Hal ini diharapan agar pembelajaran bahasa mampu memperkayapendekatan yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran bahasadan tidak terpaku pada satu jenis pendekatan yang selama inidigunakan. Sehingga mampu menghadirkan suasana belajarbahasa yang komunikatif dan mencapai sasaran.
