Abstract

Lahirnya liberalisme tidak terlepas dari perkembanganmutakhir Barat sejak era renaissance dan Aufklaerung, yang secaramassive mendasari berbagai perubahan besar dalam kultur danperadaban Barat, sehingga dunia pendidikan yang memiliki posisistrategis dalam struktur kebudayaan setiap bangsa dengansendirinya juga tidak luput dari keharusan menyesuaikan diridengan tuntutan liberalisasi.Padahal, liberalisme yang nota bene menjadi penopangkemajuan Barat dengan berkembangnya sains, teknologisasi danindustrialisasinya juga menyisakan penderitaan dan krisiskemanusiaan, hingga menimbulkan respon keras dengan lahirnyasosialisme-komunismeTulisan ini mencoba menelusuri sejauh mana implikasiliberalisme terhadap pendidikan. Selain itu tulisan ini jugadiarahkan dalam rangka penelusuran terhadap berbagai dampakpositif dan negatifnya. Sehingga tulisan ini diharapkan dapatmembangun sikap kritis terhadapnya.
