Publication Ethics Policy

The Journal of Indonesian Comparative of Syariah Law (JICL) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and ensuring the integrity of academic work. The journal follows the principles and guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

All parties involved in the publication process—authors, editors, and reviewers—must act with honesty, transparency, and academic integrity. Misconduct such as plagiarism, data falsification, duplicate publication, or unethical research practices will not be tolerated.

The JICL editorial team ensures that the publication process is fair, objective, and free from discrimination based on gender, religion, ethnicity, institutional affiliation, or political views.

Ethical Guidelines for Editors

Editors hold full responsibility for the quality and integrity of the journal’s publications. They are expected to:

  1. Fair and Impartial Decision-Making — Evaluate manuscripts solely based on their academic merit, relevance, originality, and contribution to the field of Syariah law.

  2. Confidentiality — Maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and not disclose any information beyond the editorial and review team.

  3. Conflict of Interest — Refrain from handling manuscripts in which they have a personal or professional conflict of interest.

  4. Transparency — Clearly communicate editorial decisions and provide authors with constructive feedback for improvement.

  5. Corrections and Retractions — Take appropriate action to correct or retract a paper when significant ethical or factual errors are found.

  6. Double-Blind Integrity — Ensure that the double-blind review process remains strictly anonymous for both reviewers and authors.

Ethical Guidelines for Reviewers

JICL implements a double-blind peer review process to maintain academic rigor and impartiality. Reviewers are expected to:

  1. Confidentiality — Treat manuscripts as confidential and must not share, discuss, or use them for personal advantage.

  2. Objectivity — Provide fair, unbiased, and evidence-based evaluations of the manuscript’s content, methodology, and relevance.

  3. Timeliness — Submit review reports within the agreed timeframe to avoid delays in publication.

  4. Conflict of Interest — Decline to review manuscripts in which they have competing interests or personal connections with the authors.

  5. Acknowledgment of Sources — Point out any relevant work not cited by the author and alert the editor of any suspicion of plagiarism or data manipulation.

  6. Constructive Feedback — Offer clear, respectful, and academic comments that help authors improve the quality of their work.

Ethical Guidelines for Authors

Authors submitting to JICL must adhere to the following ethical standards:

  1. Originality — Manuscripts must represent original work and not be under consideration elsewhere.

  2. Plagiarism — All submissions are screened using Turnitin plagiarism detection software. A similarity index above the acceptable threshold may result in rejection or revision.

  3. Authorship — Only individuals who have made significant contributions to the research should be listed as authors. Others should be acknowledged appropriately.

  4. Data Accuracy — Authors must ensure data integrity and must not fabricate, falsify, or manipulate results.

  5. Proper Citation — All references and sources must be accurately cited according to the journal’s style guide.

  6. Conflict of Interest — Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence their research or interpretation of results.

  7. Ethical Research Standards — Authors must comply with ethical standards of research involving humans, data, and institutional regulations.

  8. Corrections and Retractions — Authors must cooperate with editors in issuing corrections or retractions if significant errors are identified after publication.
