Abstract

AbstractBali has experienced very rapid development in the last few periods. The tourism sector plays a major role in accelerating the growth. Bali is now being "haunted" by complex environmental problems,as a result of tourism development, in addition increasing public awareness and concern for environmental sustainability. On the other hand Bali actually has a wealth of potential local wisdom about environmental ethics, which discusses how humans live side by side and preserve their nature. Unfortunately, todays the values of local wisdom oppose the challenge of its existence. Referring to these conditions re-communicating the values of local wisdom becomes a very important thing to provide knowledge about how to live side by side with nature. Through qualitative approach and literature study, author explores the potential of intellectual property in the local wisdom of the Balinese Hindu community to discuss environmental problems that are currently happening in Bali. In Balinese local wisdom, a strong ecocentric perspective in the environment is reflected. This ethics does not only concern human aspects, but also non-human aspects (plants, animals, and the supernatural environment). Humans are interconnected with natural environment systems. Through the concept of Tri Hita Karana, human life is united and understood with nature. An environment reflects humans who live in harmony, and vice versa. Various rituals were also presented in an effort to present a harmonious and balanced state between human life and nature. These values need to be communicated back to the community by considering changes in the landscape of public communication towards digital media.
