Rasjidi’s Intellectual Contribution in Modern Dialogue and Interaction with other Faith

Abstract

The article focuses on H.M Rasjidi’s thoughts and experiences with regard to the relation and dialogue between Muslims and Christians in Indonesia. It also describes the historical events and intellectual debates pertaining to Muslim-Christian conflicts in Indonesia which was seriously discussed by Rasjidi in his works. Furthermore, this also discusses the methods in dealing with other faiths in Islam and also in Christianity. Discussing a brief understanding on the established principles in Islam as framework for a dialogue with other faiths shall be discussed at the first. Through this framework, Rasjidi attempts to scrutinize the Christian principles in respecting other faiths through Christian congresses and literature in responding to the social problems. Since Rasjidi, in many of his works, has been dedicated to clarify problems concerning Muslim-Christian relationship, thus, this article shall be an interesting topic in this research in order to know how Rasjidi tries to explain the relationship between Islam and Christianity in Indonesia.
