Pendidikan islam merupakan suatu proses dalam menemukantrasformasi baik dalam diri maupun komunitas. PendidikanIslam sendiri berupaya membimbing dan mengarahkanpertumbuhan serta perkembangan diri dan kelompok menujuperbaikan mental yang akan terwujud dalam perbuatan danmembebaskan manusia dari berbagai ikatan, intimidasi, daneksploitasi.Pendidikan Islam di Indonesia dalam upayanya membebaskandiri dari segala bentuk ikatan, intimidasi dan eksploitasiperadaban baru selalu menghadapi berbagai tantangan-tantanganserius yang memerlukan perhatian yang lebih dari pemerintahdan kalangan yang berkecimpung dalam dunia pendidikan untukmenjaga eksistensi pendidikan Islam di Indonesia. Karenabagaimanapun pendidikan Islam merupakan warisan sejarah yangharus di jaga kelestariannya.Pesantren dan madrasah sebagai bentuk lembaga pendidikanislam di indonesia dewasa ini dihadapkan pada beberapabentuk konformisme kurikulum dan sumberdaya manusia, dampakperubahaan sosial politik, perubahaan orientasi pendidikan,dan globalisasi. Untuk itu dibutuhkan dukungan penuh daripemerintah dalam mengikis segala bentuk kelemahan pendidikanIslam serta mewujudkan pembaharuan sistem dengan jalanmenjadikan pendidikan Islam sebagai faktor penting dalam upayamewujudkan manusia seutuhnya di kalangan mayoritas
