Lembaga pesantren mempunyai andil besar dalam pergerakan arus
perubahan sosial Indonesia. Keberhasilannya sebagai sebuah institusi
pendidikan Islam menegaskan diri sebagai entitas yang ikut mencerdaskan
bangsa. Keberhasilan pesantren yang telah banyak melahirkan tokoh-tokoh
agama, pejuang serta pemimpin masyarakat, merupakan bukti bahwa
pesantren berperan banyak dalam membangun Indonesia. Perkembangan
pesantren –dari pesantren salaf (bandongan dan sorogan) sampai pesantren
modern– yang sangat pesat hingga saat ini tidaklah lepas dari adanya
sistem pendidikan yang jelas dan kurikulum yang terencana dengan baik.
Karena kurikulum merupakan alat yang sangat penting dalam keberhasilan
suatu pendidikan, maka perlu adanya perencanaan dalam penerapannya,
tanpa adanya kurikulum yang baik dan tepat, akan sulit untuk mencapai
semua tujuan dan sasaran pendidikan yang telah dicita-citakan. Untuk
itu, manajemen mutu pendidikan perlu dirumuskan secara matang agar
mampu menghasilkan output pendidikan yang berkualitas.
