Abstrak
This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of the concept of curriculum between the ideas of Syed Naquib al-Attas and John Dewey, two prominent educational thinkers with contrasting worldviews. Syed Naquib al-Attas, a renowned Muslim scholar, presents an Islamic perspective on the purpose and structure of education, while John Dewey, a renowned American philosopher, advocates for a progressive, secular approach. Through a critical examination of their respective theories and philosophies, this study explores the similarities and differences in their conceptualization of curriculum, with a particular focus on the underlying worldviews that shape their educational frameworks. The study employs a qualitative research design, utilizing a comparative analysis method to systematically compare and contrast the ideas of al-Attas and Dewey. The findings reveal that while both thinkers acknowledge the importance of curriculum in shaping the educational experience, their fundamental differences in worldview lead to divergent perspectives on the aims, content, and implementation of curriculum. The study contributes to the existing literature by providing a nuanced understanding of the intersections and divergences between Islamic and secular approaches to curriculum development, offering valuable insights for educational policy, practice, and reform.
