Abstract

The character of santri nurtured by Sang Kyai has brought honor to Islam in the Javanese region. The Nusantara land is indeed rich in heritage. Examining language through verbal and nonverbal interactions in the pesantren world reveals a wealth of cultural and religious contexts. This article aims to uncover the meaning of locution, illocution, and perlocution by exploring the spiritual depth and moral character of santri under the guidance of the kyai. This descriptive research method focuses on a contextual analysis of communication to understand the intentions and values behind gestures depicted in screenshots and scenes from the film Sang Kyai. The findings indicate that verbal and nonverbal articulation continue to reinforce beliefs, enhancing the beauty of religious and cultural character, especially when explored through a strong referential foundation.
