Abstract

English language learning in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) still faces various challenges, particularly due to the lack of student interest in mastering the language. Although many pesantren mandate the use of English and even incorporate it into their curriculum, obstacles in its implementation persist. This study aims to analyze effective English teaching approaches within the pesantren education system. Generally, there are two primary approaches in pesantren education: the traditional approach and the modern approach. The research method used in this study is library research, which aligns with the current educational context of pesantren. Through this study, it is expected that effective English learning strategies can be identified in both traditional and modern systems to enhance students' language competence. Furthermore, this research seeks to contribute to the development of improved English teaching methodologies for future generations in pesantren environments.
