Abstract

Darussalam Gontor University emphasizes the importance of mastering Arabic among its students. To achieve this goal, the university implements a special curriculum that requires all students to be able to speak Arabic actively and passively. Arabic is very important as it is used in the Quran and Hadith as well as classical Islamic literature. However, students often face challenges in learning this language due to time constraints, lack of motivation, and insufficient interaction with the Arabic language. The importance of improving engagement and retention of Arabic vocabulary is a major concern in teaching at this university. Conventional approaches to language teaching often lack interactivity and do not provide enough opportunities for effective practice. Therefore, alternative approaches that are more engaging and effective are needed. One of the innovative solutions offered is the use of the gamification-based Alikhtibar application, which aims to improve vocabulary retention through a more engaging method. This study aims to evaluate the effect of gamification-based Alikhtibar application on Arabic vocabulary retention among female students of Universitas Darussalam Gontor. The study used a quantitative method with a pretest-posttest experimental design on one group of 30 semester 1 female students. The results of the pretest and posttest were analyzed to assess the effectiveness of this application in improving vocabulary retention. Has The pretest and posttest results were analyzed to assess the effectiveness of this application in improving vocabulary retention. The results of the study are expected to provide information to education personnel regarding the effect of this application, increase female students' interest in learning Arabic more actively and independently, and become recommendations for other educational institutions in improving Arabic vocabulary retention skills through a gamification approach. In addition, the data and information from this study can be a reference for further research with related variables.
