Abstract

The environment has a very important role in the acquisition of a language, especially a second language. The process of language acquisition is an interesting topic that continues to be discussed, especially in the context of foreign language acquisition. This topic is related to the concept of first language acquisition in children and covers the process of language learning and foreign language acquisition. This study aims to determine how the role of the environment in acquiring Arabic at Pondok Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) Malang. The method in this study uses a qualitative field research approach. Data collection techniques in this study used participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data analysis uses the interactive technique of Miles, Huberman and Saldana, while the validity test of the data uses triangulation. The result of this study is that language acquisition is more emphasized on language acquisition by a child that occurs accidentally, especially emphasis and improvement on the role of the environment itself, so as to minimize phoneme errors pronounced by students.
