YouTube as A Media to Elevate Arabic Speaking Skill: An Evaluation in Second Language Learning
Abstract
YouTube is one of the alternative media for learning Arabic. It can be used to elevate Arabic speaking skills. This study aims to describe the evaluation of Arabic language learning through YouTube, especially for sixth semester students of International Relations major at the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. It is qualitative-descriptive research which applies non-participant observation method. The research results are classified into two categories: linguistic and non-linguistic evaluations. At the linguistic level, several language errors are found, including lexical and grammatical errors. Meanwhile, at the non-linguistic level, several positive impacts are shown from the use of YouTube media, such as providing space for students to express their skills, exploring students’ creativity, building students’ self-confidence in speaking Arabic, as well as variations in oral assessment.
